What is Trans PRK?
It is a method for correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, similar to LASIK. However, Trans PRK uses an excimer laser to remove the surface layer of the cornea (epithelium) and reshape the curvature of the cornea in a single step. This is done using the latest technology — the WaveLight EX500 Excimer Laser from Alcon — which employs Perfect Pulse Technology to precisely and safely control the laser used to resurface the cornea. It also features an individual iris registration system that scans and captures images of the patient’s iris, allowing for more accurate alignment of astigmatism correction.
Trans PRK Procedure Steps
- Remove contact lenses before the evaluation: at least 7 days for soft lenses and at least 3 weeks for hard lenses.
- Stop taking acne medications in the Roaccutane or Acnotin group at least 1 month in advance.
- Bring any relevant medical records, such as your eye prescription or current medications.
- Do not drive yourself on the day of the exam, as pupil-dilating drops may cause temporary blurred vision.
- Do not wear makeup, including around the eyes.
- Wear a wide-neck or button-down shirt that is easy to change out of.
- Study the procedure information and undergo a thorough eye examination before receiving the service.
- Inform the doctor of all existing health conditions, including any medications or supplements you regularly take, as they may affect the surgery. The doctor may advise discontinuing certain medications or supplements.
- Vision may change in the future due to age-related degeneration, family history of eye conditions, patterns of eye use, or other eye disorders such as glaucoma or cataracts.
